Had an amazing day at the blue reef aquarium, staff were amazing and very knowledgeable could answer any questions we asked. Great place to take kids spent the whole day there from 1030 till about 1600. They had a few different feedings during the day which we watched as well. From some of the fish/ sharks to the otters and sea horses. Was all great to watch. 5 of us went was 11.30 each so under 60 for a day out I think is good value for money. I think the whole day might be a bit long for kids but if you go at one of the feeding times its great and they will really enjoy it. All in all a great day out for all of the family. Feeding times to follow if I can find the piece of paper....
We arrived at the aquarium on a wet and cold Saturday afternoon. We waited at the front desk where there was only one member of staff running the admissions side and the gift shop. When we finally got served we entered the aquarium and began the walk around. Ok so I know it's an aquarium but there was a god awful smell the whole way around. My family enjoyed seeing the different animals however for the price of admission we expected to see a lot more. In fact I'm sure we paid about the same price for the London aquarium which is much bigger! We also got half way round and my husband wanted to go to the toilet. The toilets were locked and had signs on that said out of order. They also smelt very strongly of urine. These were the only toilets in the whole aquarium. They do stamp you if you want to return but to be honest you can do the whole place within half and hour. Would much rather spend the 30+ at the arcades to win a rubber duck.
Could do with a bit of a revamp maybe. The otters were lovely and the turtles and sea horses. I went alone but I can imagine it being a good place to take kids for an hour or two.
Firstly there's a cafe and the only free toielets for miles. (Just saying) however the tickets are reasonable as you can come back during the day and though it's compact there's quite a lot to see and do even an underwater tunnel! Don't be fooled by it's appearance(tiny) as the aquarium is underground for most of it. There's also an ace gift shop and play area for little ones. (Also included some pictures)
It's a shame that the business has not been invested in for a couple of decades. Clean but tired and not much variety of species.Comments on the impact of plastic on the environment, yet 99% of products on sale in the gift shop are made of plastic.Good cafe and fish & chip shop outside. Easy for buggies and wheelchair users.
